I was born in Canton, China, and grew up in Chicago’s Chinatown. Drawing helped me make sense of a new language and culture. Over time, my personal memories became a way to explore the larger story of Chinese American life.

My path through illustration and children’s books led to museum exhibitions and public art. Across these forms, I return to family, labor, cultural memory, and belonging. Gold Mountain brings those threads together in the most sustained work of my career.
