Figurative 17, 2017-Present

Figurative 17 began in 2017 as an exploration of the human figure and recognizable forms through abstraction and geometry. The title reflects the starting point of the series: figurative exploration beginning in 2017.

The work investigates how familiar subjects can be broken apart, rearranged, and reconstructed. Geometric shapes, patterns, and negative space challenge conventional representation while allowing recognizable forms to emerge.

During the isolation of the 2020 pandemic, I spent long hours alone developing pencil drawings and exploring new possibilities. This became an important period in the continuing development of the series.

The compositions combine precise drawing with experimentation. Positive and negative spaces carry equal importance, and each decision opens the possibility for another.

The series continues to evolve through an interest in bending reality with geometry, questioning familiar forms, and discovering unexpected relationships. As of 2026, there are 40+ documented in the series.
