Career Narrative

I am a visual artist based in Naperville, Illinois. Born in Canton, China, and raised in Chicago’s Chinatown, my early experiences as an immigrant shaped a lifelong curiosity about people, culture, and the world around me. Drawing became a natural way to observe, understand, and express those experiences.

Over the years, my artistic practice has expanded across painting, drawing, mixed media, and public art. Moving freely between realism and abstraction allows for continuous exploration of form, structure, space, and perception. Each medium offers new possibilities without the limitations of a particular style or technique.

Curiosity and critical thinking are central to my creative process. Rarely beginning with a fixed outcome, ideas develop through experimentation, questioning, and unexpected discoveries. Years of technical experience provide the freedom to take risks, challenge familiar approaches, and pursue original compositions.

My career has evolved from publishing to museum exhibitions, public art, and independent studio practice. Each experience has contributed to a broader understanding of art and its possibilities.

What continues to inspire me is the process of discovery. Art is not simply about applying what has been learned, but questioning what is known, exploring what is possible, and creating something that has never existed before.
