Waves of DuPage: Beautiful Cities was a countywide public art project created in conjunction with the 2025 exhibition Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World.
Commissioned through a collaboration with the College of DuPage, McAninch Arts Center, and Cleve Carney Museum of Art, 37 original artworks were created to represent 22 communities across DuPage County.
Inspired by traditional Japanese ukiyo-e prints, the series reimagines local landmarks, architecture, and landscapes as contemporary art. Traditional Japanese visual elements are transformed through modern compositions, bold colors, and flowing lines, creating a new interpretation of familiar places.
The artworks bring together historical artistic influences and contemporary visual expression, reflecting the unique character of each community. The framed originals were presented during the museum exhibition, while the designs were transformed into large-scale public murals displayed throughout DuPage County.
The project expanded my public art practice beyond a single location, connecting contemporary art, local history, and community identity across an entire county.
